Carnevali Admission Turns Kolo Muani Into PSG Leverage

Paris Saint-Germain have spent the early summer trying to turn Randal Kolo Muani’s Juventus loan into a clean exit. Giovanni Carnevali has now handed them the line that matters: Turin still want the France forward, but only on terms that protect their own balance sheet.

That changes the negotiation. According to Black & White & Read All Over, the new Juventus chief executive has openly framed Kolo Muani as a live option while stressing that the numbers must work for the Serie A side. For PSG, who have already watched Juventus talks stall over structure and valuation, the message is blunt rather than surprising.

Kolo Muani is no longer a sporting mystery in Paris. The question is whether PSG can convert Juventus’ interest into a fee that strengthens Luis Enrique’s summer flexibility, rather than accepting another temporary solution that simply delays the same argument by 12 months.

Juventus Interest Is Real, But PSG Need Cash Discipline

Carnevali’s admission matters because it puts Juventus’ admiration on the record. The Italian club have not walked away from Kolo Muani, and that gives PSG a buyer with tactical motivation.

The problem is structure. Juventus have repeatedly been more comfortable with loans, delayed payments and obligation clauses than a clean immediate purchase. PSG, by contrast, have every reason to demand a firmer package after committing heavily to Kolo Muani in 2023.

ReadPSG has already covered how Juventus contact gave Paris a fresh price test, and that remains the heart of the matter. A loan with an optional buy clause would solve Juventus’ short-term forward need, but it would do very little for PSG’s squad planning.

The French champions need clarity in three areas:

  • Guaranteed income, not a soft option that can be walked back next summer.
  • Wage relief, with Juventus carrying the bulk of the salary if talks drag into another loan.
  • Squad space, because Luis Enrique’s attack is already shaped around Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Kolo Muani can still be a high-level transition forward, but he does not look like a natural fit for PSG’s current positional game. Juventus know that. PSG know that. The battle is now about who absorbs the financial discomfort.

Why Carnevali’s Timing Helps Paris

The timing of Carnevali’s comments gives PSG leverage because Juventus have effectively confirmed the player remains inside their recruitment conversation. That public posture makes it harder to sell the idea that Paris must accept a cut-price exit.

PSG can also point to the wider forward market. Proven international attackers are expensive, especially players with Kolo Muani’s age profile, athleticism and World Cup pedigree. Even after a difficult spell in Paris, he remains a 27-year-old France international with Champions League experience and a profile that suits Serie A’s transitional spaces.

That is why Paris should resist framing the deal as a rescue mission. The stronger line is simple: Juventus want the player, the player has already shown he can function in Italy, and PSG should be paid accordingly.

There is still compromise available. A loan with a mandatory purchase clause, triggered by realistic appearance or qualification markers, may be the bridge. Juventus would avoid the full immediate hit. PSG would secure a credible exit pathway. Kolo Muani would get the continuity that has been missing since his Frankfurt peak.

But another open-ended loan would be poor business. PSG are not short of attacking names; they are short of clean exits that help fund the next layer of Luis Enrique’s squad build.

Carnevali has kept the door open. Now PSG must make sure Juventus do not walk through it on their own terms.
