Raya appreciates Enrique for international exposure

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has thanked Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique for handing him his international debut with Spain.

The 30-year-old made his bow in 2022 when Enrique was in charge of La Roja. He has since earned 12 caps and will be part of the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Raya’s path will cross with Enrique in the UEFA Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday, and hopes to get the better of PSG.

“Luis Enrique is an excellent coach and a wonderful person. He’s the one who gave me my first cap for Spain, I owe him a lot of respect,” he said.

“He’s a top-level coach who’s always making adjustments to make things difficult for the opposition. But our objective is clear: to try and win this final.”

The Spaniard has played 13 games in Europe this season, keeping nine clean sheets, and conceding just four goals.

Some of the notable clean sheets were against Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon, with Arsenal being the only team yet to lose in Europe’s premier club competition this term.
