Hakimi makes Morocco squad for 2026 World Cup

Achraf Hakimi has been included in the Morocco squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

The 27-year-old is currently racing against time to be fit for this weekend’s UEFA Champions League final with Arsenal in Budapest having been out with a hamstring injury since the first leg against Bayern Munich.

He has played 31 times in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing nine assists.

Hakimi is the captain of the Morocco squad, and has earned 95 caps, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists.

He will be appearing at his third World Cup, and was part of the team that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 edition in Qatar, becoming the first African and Arab team to do so.

Morocco are in Group C and will face five-time champions Brazil as well as Scotland and debutants Haiti.

PSG players called up for the World Cup

Hakimi is the 14th PSG player that will represent their country in North America. Others that have been called up are Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, Warren Zaire-Emery and Lucas Hernandez for France squad while Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Vitinha and Goncalo Ramos are for Portugal.

Marquinhos will be with Brazil, Kang-In Lee with South Korea, Khalil Ayari with Tunisia and Ibrahim Mbaye with Senegal.

The 2026 World Cup will take place between June 11 and July 19.
