Dembele seeks to impress with France ahead of World Cup

Ousmane Dembele has his sights set on making an impression at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the France national team.

The 29-year-old is no stranger at the Mundial, having been part of the Les Bleus squad that won the 2018 edition in Russia. He was also part of the team that reached the 2022 edition in Qatar but lost to Argentina.

France are once again one of the favourites for the 2026 in Canada, the United States and Mexico, where Dembele wants to show his qualities to the entire world.

“Of course, I still have to prove myself with Les Bleus. The Champions League is the first step with PSG, then there’s an incredible competition for us French,” he said.

“It’s exceptional to play in a World Cup, it doesn’t happen every day. I’ll be playing in my third and I hope to perform well. It’s a goal, especially after the disappointment we experienced in 2022.”

Dembele still eyes improvement

The current Ballon d’Or holder has been in impressive form this season, with 19 goals and 11 assists in 39 competitive games.

He is still considered one of the best players in the world and tipped to retain his crown, but believes his still needs to build on his game.

“Many have seen things in me, but there are also things to improve. Whether it’s with Luis Enrique or the players I’m with on the pitch, they are all high-quality players, and I’m also trying to progress,” he added.

“I’ve questioned myself a lot. Luis Enrique asked me to lead by example, both on and off the pitch. I’ve had much more responsibility. I’m simply trying to do my job.”
