Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has been touted as the next boss Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Things have not been to the usual standards at the Santiago Bernabeu this season as Los Blancos have been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey, while they are 11 points behind Barcelona, meaning they are poised to go trophyless in back-to-back campaigns.
Xabi Alonso took over from Carlo Ancelotti last summer, but left by mutual consent in January. Alvaro Arbeloa was his replacement until the end of the season but he has failed to show consistency in positive results.
This leaves Madrid in search of a permanent manager in the summer, and there was been some notable names linked, including former boss Jose Mourinho, French coach Didier Deschamps, US coach Mauricio Pochettino and ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Enrique.
According to Cadena COPE, Enrique is another notable name linked, owing to his very strong record at PSG where he led them to an historic treble last season, a feat he is still on course to repeat in the current campaign.
The Spaniard is not only be linked to Madrid but other sides like Manchester United, Chelsea, who are equally in need of a permanent boss in the summer.
Enrique’s ties to Real Madrid
Enrique was a player for Real Madrid between 1991 and 1996. He however drew the wrath of the fans when he moved to arch rivals Barcelona in 1996 and spent eight years at the Camp Nou, before retiring professionally.
The 55-year-old would go on to become Blaugrana manager between 2014 and 2017, helping the Catalan giants to the treble in 2015.
Enrique is considered the best coach at the moment, and considering Madrid’s problems, El Chiringuito de Jugones reports that Los Blancos supporters would bury any animosity they have towards him, thanks to his track record.
