Enrique confident in PSG’s ability to cope without Hakimi

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has full confidence in his squad being able to cope with the absence of Achraf Hakimi.

The Moroccan full-back picked up an ankle injury in Tuesday’s 5-4 win over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, and will be sidelined for Saturday’s Ligue 1 tie against Lorient and the second leg against Bayern.

In Hakimi’s absence, Warren Zaire-Emery might deputise at right-back, which Enrique has no problem with.

“Achraf is a machine; he performs at the highest level all the time. It’s incredible. Unfortunately, he won’t be in Munich, but we’re confident because we have the depth in the squad,” the Spaniard said ahead of the game.

“I think the team has shown its ability to cope with injuries to key players in the squad. That’s important if we’re to win trophies. Warren? He’s still very young but already has a lot of experience. We’ll continue to play in the same spirit, with the same intentions.”

Fabian Ruiz boost

Enrique also expressed his delight with the return of Ruiz from knee injury since January. The Spanish midfielder has made four consecutive appearances, and started last weekend’s win at Angers.

“Fabian is an incredible player. He’s an international, one of the best midfielders in Europe, and he’s very important to us. His return from injury is a real boost,” he added.

“He’s featured in the last few matches, and tomorrow will be another chance for him to pick up some more playing time.”

PSG eight points clear of RC Lens who OGC Nice also on Saturday.
