Paris Saint-Germain are reported to have recently made contact with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes (21), according to Foot Mercato.
A product of Sporting CP’s youth academy, the Portuguese midfielder began his English career with Southampton, whom he joined in the summer of 2024. But whilst the Saints were relegated to the Championship at the end of the following season, it was with West Ham – who offered them a cheque for €44 million – that the Olhão-born player was quickly able to return to the Premier League. And make his mark there.
Having established himself as an undisputed first-choice midfielder for the Hammers, Fernandes has started 32 of the 33 matches he has played for the London Stadium residents since his arrival last August. All this while proving decisive on seven occasions, with four goals and three assists to his name. Under contract with the East London club until 2030, his market value is estimated at €35 million by the specialist website Transfermarkt.
Another Portuguese player at PSG?
Whilst his move to PSG is not yet a concrete deal, the presence of a significant Portuguese contingent within their ranks could well tip the balance in his decision-making.
Indeed, under the leadership of Luis Campos, PSG’s sporting director, many of his compatriots have joined the French club. Vitinha (26), Gonçalo Ramos (24), João Neves (21) and Nuno Mendes (23), who are all part of Luis Enrique’s current squad, are prime examples of this.
