Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano is looking forward to reuniting with his former academy teammate Ousmane Dembele when they face-off in the UEFA Champions League semi-final later this month.
Bayern Munich overcame Real Madrid in a nervy encounter at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday with a 4-3 win, 6-4 on aggregate, to set up a fixture against PSG.
The upcoming game would reunite two products of Evreux FC 27, a football club based in Normandy.
Upamecano and Dembele are among the notable football stars who started their football career at Evreux.
Ahead of the April 28 showdown in Paris, the Bayern Munich defender has hinted at his commitment to buy more tickets for the first-leg.
“It is just incredible; for this match, I think everyone from Evreux will be there,” Upamecano told reporters. “I’m going to have to order a lot of tickets but it is going to be a great contest.
“We will have to prepare well and we are expecting a very good match.”
Evreux are currently competing in the regional division of the Normandy league after being relegated from the Championnat National 2, the French fourth division, in 2023.
PSG match won’t be easy
Earlier in the UEFA Champions League this season, Bayern Munich travelled to Paris to beat Luis Enrique’s side 2-1 in the league phase.
Aware of the quality of PSG players, Upamecano admitted that the semi-final fixture will be tricky for the Germans and they know what to expect.
“Frankly, it is not going to be an easy match,” the Frenchman continued. “Paris Saint-Germain has a very good team with a superb coach. They play very good football; we’ve already faced them.
“We know what to expect and we are going to do everything we can to win there, and then we’ll host them at home.”
