Suffering from hamstring trouble, Marquinhos (31) has been ruled out of Thursday’s friendly between Brazil and France, his manager Carlo Ancelotti announced at a press conference.
This announcement came as no surprise for the centre-back, who was unable to train on either Monday or Tuesday. As a result, Flamengo’s Léo Pereira (30) has been selected to replace him and is set to make his debut for the Seleção against Les Bleus.
Marquinhos could be available to face Croatia
Although he will indeed be absent for this rematch of the 1998 World Cup final, Marquinhos has not been released by his national team, whilst Ancelotti has explained that he “might be able to play against Croatia”.
A reassuring update regarding the severity of the player’s injury, as a potential appearance in the match against the Vatreni could mean some rest time for him upon his return to Paris. Scheduled for Tuesday night into Wednesday, the encounter with the Croatians would take place just two days before Paris Saint-Germain host Toulouse FC in the 28th round of Ligue 1.
