Lucas Beraldo set to sign PSG contract extension

Lucas Beraldo is set to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2030, according to information from RMC Sport.

Having been moved into the defensive midfield role for several weeks, the Brazilian has fully met Luis Enrique’s expectations in the absence of Vitinha, who was injured against Olympique Lyonnais.

At 22, although not a regular starter for the reigning European champions, the defender is gradually establishing himself as a viable alternative in a position that is not his natural one.

“In my view, he’s the man of the match,” his manager even praised him after PSG’s 3-0 away win at Angers on Saturday. “Normally, I don’t like putting a defender in midfield, but Beraldo is a different kind of centre-back. He knows how to drive the play forward. For us, he’s more of a Busquets than a Vitinha. He’ll be playing a lot in midfield.”

Currently under contract with PSG until 2028, Beraldo is therefore expected to continue his time with the Parisians, for whom he has made 19 appearances, scored two goals and provided one assist since the start of the season.

With no departures, PSG will not be signing any new midfielders

But the impact of the Piracicaba-born player’s emergence with Les Rouge et Bleu will not be limited to the short term. His versatility and consistent performances could also prompt the club’s management to rethink their strategy ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

With a wealth of quality players capable of playing in various midfield positions, PSG’s squad in this area may well remain unchanged, unless one of its players leaves. An important vote of confidence for players who, together, have already won everything.
