Atletico Madrid Complete Lee Kang-in Medical As PSG Exit Nears

Lee Kang-in has taken the last big medical step before leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Atletico Madrid’s medical director travelled to South Korea this week to examine the midfielder in person, with the paperwork now the only thing standing between him and a move to the Spanish capital.

According to a fresh update from South Korean outlet STARNEWS, Atletico’s team doctor Jose Maria Villalon flew out to conduct Lee’s medical examination on home soil, a step that would normally follow straight after a transfer is agreed rather than before. RMC Sport and Fabrizio Romano have both described the deal as done in all but name, with PSG in line for a fee worth up to €40m — a €35m base plus bonuses — and Lee signing a five-year contract in Madrid through to 2031.

Diego Simeone Gets His Man

The move hands Diego Simeone a versatile attacking midfielder who made 124 appearances for PSG since arriving from Mallorca in 2023, scoring 16 goals and winning two Champions Leagues and three Ligue 1 titles along the way. Lee’s game-time under Luis Enrique had shrunk this past season, and a thigh injury in January further limited his involvement, pushing him to seek regular football elsewhere.

Spanish reporting has pointed to administrative processing on PSG’s side, and Lee’s own holiday schedule, as the reasons an official announcement has not yet landed despite personal terms being settled months ago. With the medical now out of the way, Atletico are expected to confirm the signing once Lee returns from his break, closing out one of the summer’s longest-running PSG sagas.

ReadPSG has followed the saga since Atletico first forced PSG into a fee decision on Lee back in June, through to the clearer exit signals that emerged once Lee was removed from PSG’s squad plans.
