Paris Saint-Germain showed their credentials as arguably the best team in Europe after beating German heavyweights Bayern Munich 5-4 in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday.
The result puts them on the verge of making it to back-to-back finals, and potentially win consecutive titles, the first French team to do so, and only the second team since 1992 after Real Madrid, that won three in a row between 2016 and 2018.
Much of PSG’s dominance has been attributed to manager Luis Enrique who, deviated from the practice of signing superstars to aiming for young and energetic players.
The Spaniard could also lead to French giants to back-to-back trebles, a feat that would be a first anywhere in Europe.
Tuesday’s win against Bayern had set that tone in motion. It also saw Enrique register his 50th win in the Champions League as a manager. He however stands tall over any other manager as he achieved the feat in 77 games.
Enrique has now surpassed the record of Manchester City boss Pape Guardiola who achieved 50 Champions League wins in 80 games.
Enrique is hot property
The consistency of PSG under Enrique has made him one of the most-talked managers at the moment.
He has been linked to clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and his playing club, Real Madrid. All three sides are in need of a permanent head coach this summer, with Michael Carrick, Calum McFarlane and Alvaro Arbeloa respectively in charge in the interim.
