Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain clash once again in the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League after the French giants emerged victorious last season.
Ahead of Wednesday’s match at the Parc, Read PSG highlights the players who played both clubs during their professional career.
Hugo Ekitike is the most recent player to have played for both teams and Luis Enrique, during his press conference on Tuesday, acknowledged the French star’s development since he left Paris in January 2024.
Ekitike did not really impress during his short stay at PSG and he was sent out on loan after just a season to Eintracht Frankfurt.
He managed to score just three goals in 25 league games for the Parisians.
Nicolas Anelka
The former French striker started his nomadic career in Paris after developing through the ranks of PSG academy but a fallout with coach Luis Fernandez brought an end to his PSG career in 2001.
Anelka had two stints at PSG between 1996-97 and 2000-01, and left the French capital on loan in December 2001 to join Liverpool before securing a permanent switch to Manchester City at the end of the 2001-02 season.
Georginio Wijnaldum
Wijnaldum spent the majority of his playing career at Liverpool between 2016 and 2021, and he left the Reds to join PSG in June 2021.
Although he lifted the Ligue 1 title in his debut season, the Dutchman was loaned to AS Roma at the end of his first season in France.
Two years later, PSG agreed a permanent transfer with Saudi club Al-Ettifaq for Wijnaldum.
Mamadou Sakho
From amateur to professional-level football, Sakho started his career at PSG and spent a chunk of it in the capital between 2007 and 2013.
After making over 150 Ligue 1 appearances for the Parisians, the retired centre-back moved to the Premier League in 2013, joining Liverpool, where he spent four years until 2017.
Mohamed Sissoko
‘Momo’ Sissoko first played for Liverpool between 2005 and 2008, then made a return to France to play for PSG in 2011 from Juventus.
During his stint at Parc des Princes, he notably captained the club in Le Classique against Marseille in April 2012, but he was later sent off in that game.
