PSG Super Cup: Paris Face Aston Villa in Salzburg
Paris Saint-Germain open their new campaign against Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, with the meeting of Europe’s two continental winners set for 20:00 BST on Wednesday 12 August. The one-off final takes place at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria.
The fixture pits the reigning Champions League winners against the Europa League holders. PSG arrive as back-to-back European champions and reigning Ligue 1 title-holders, having beaten Arsenal on penalties to retain the Champions League — the run charted in our PSG season coverage. Aston Villa, first-time Europa League winners, will contest the match for the first time. For Luis Enrique’s side it is the season’s first competitive test and a chance of more silverware before the domestic campaign begins.
What to know about the Super Cup
The tie will be played at the 30,000-capacity Red Bull Arena, known as Stadion Salzburg during UEFA competitions. An annual fixture since 1973, the Super Cup has been won most often by Real Madrid, on six occasions, as BBC Sport reported. PSG lifted the trophy in 2025 and can make it back-to-back Super Cups in Austria.
Victory would hand Les Parisiens the perfect springboard into the new season. Kick-off in Salzburg is 20:00 BST, and the Parc des Princes faithful will hope Paris begin the campaign as they ended the last one — with a trophy.
