Lille 2-2 PSG: Marquinhos Rescues a Point With the Last Touch of the Game

Lille 2-2 PSG was heading one way until the very last touch at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, where captain Marquinhos headed home an equaliser to rescue a point Paris Saint-Germain had spent 90 minutes failing to earn.

Davide Ancelotti’s Lille were seconds from a huge scalp. Hákon Arnar Haraldsson opened the scoring in the 21st minute, rifling into the top right corner after being teed up by Olivier Giroud, and it had been coming.

Les Dogues pressed hard and broke at startling speed. Paris had chances of their own, but Achraf Hakimi miscued in front of an open net and three close-range efforts went begging.

How Lille 2-2 PSG turned late

Luis Enrique made his now-customary half-time change, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia replacing Désiré Doué, and the threat spread. Lille retreated into a low block as Paris cranked up the pressure, though Giroud should have made it 2-0 with a header he thumped into the ground.

Six minutes from time, substitute Dilane Bakwa — on loan from Nottingham Forest, and on his debut — found a yard of separation from Lucas Digne and curled into the top left corner. Then came injury time: a Vitinha wonder goal, one last desperate push, and Marquinhos rising to nod in with the final act of the match.

It is the second week running that Les Parisiens have come from two goals down to draw 2-2, after the opener at Rennes. Ousmane Dembélé was again absent, rested rather than dropped, as set out in our Lille team news. Two matchweeks into the Ligue 1 title defence, the champions have two points and a lot to tidy up.
