Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has congratulated Paris Saint-Germain for reaching the UEFA Champions League final.
The Parisians defeated the Bavarian giants 6-5 on aggregate after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena.
Luis Enrique’s side have now made it to back-to-back Champions League final, which Kompany believes they are deserving of.
“Sadly we’re not in the final. We have to acknowledge that we played against great opponents,” the Belgian tactician said.
“The Champions League is over for us for now, but there’ll be more moments, more opportunities and that’s also great motivation for me. The level of both teams was very, very high.
“PSG have so much quality, they’ve probably been the best team in Europe in the last two years. We’ve played against them five times now – we’ve won twice, lost twice and drawn once. We tried everything, I have to say. Congratulations to PSG, but we’ll try again.”
PSG stamp authority on German opposition
Wednesday’s encounter was PSG’s 18th tie against Bayern, while it was their 37th meeting with a German team in Europe.
They have recorded eight victories against Bayern, their most against a single European team.
