Ferran Torres is on the verge of becoming a Paris Saint-Germain player. The Spain forward was given permission to miss Barcelona training on Wednesday to finalise his move to Paris, as BBC Sport reported, and Goal now says the Catalans’ decision to let him go means the transfer is only a matter of time.
Why Ferran Torres fits Paris
It caps a rapid pursuit. Barcelona rejected PSG’s opening offer — put at around €40m by ESPN’s sources — earlier this week, but with personal terms already agreed, the clubs have moved quickly towards common ground. The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Paris were close to an agreement with Barcelona, though neither club has confirmed the deal or the fee.
The appeal is obvious. With Gonçalo Ramos sold to AC Milan this summer, Luis Enrique has spent the window chasing a versatile forward, and Torres — comfortable through the middle or off either flank — fits the profile. He would follow Lucas Digne and Maghnes Akliouche through the door at the Campus as the latest arrival of Paris’s summer.
Not everyone in Catalonia is thrilled: Barca Universal reports that some Barcelona players were “surprised” by how Torres has handled the move — a measure, perhaps, of how determined the forward is to get to the Parc.
Fresh from retaining the Super Cup against Aston Villa in Salzburg, Les Parisiens now look set to crown their week with a marquee signing. Nothing is official yet, but supporters may not have long to wait.
