Enrique delighted with management of Dembele’s fitness issues

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique has expressed his happiness over the management of Ousmane Dembele’s fitness problems this season.

The current Ballon d’Or holder has dealt with hamstring and calf injuries this term which has seen him play 34 times in all competitions, 19 of them in Ligue 1.

This in contrast to the quadruple-winning 2024-25 campaign when he played 53 times in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and providing 16 assists.

Dembele has still put in decent numbers this season, with 16 goals in all competitions, 10 of them in Ligue 1.

“I think that he’s very important for us, both in attack and in defence. He’s a different kind of player, a leader,” Enrique said ahead of Saturday’s trip to Angers.

“I think that we’ve managed him well this season in terms of tackling the physical problems that he’s had, and I also think that we’re again seeing the best of him.

“Enrique also waxed lyrical about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, called him a “real joy”. The Georgian star has also been an instrumental figure for PSG this term with 16 goals and nine assists in 42 matches in all competitions.

“Kvara is a different kind of player. When we signed him, we already knew about his qualities.,” the Spaniard added.

“He’s very comfortable both on and off the ball, and having that kind of player is a real joy for a manager.”

PSG are currently four points clear of RC Lens at the top of the Ligue 1 standings with five games left to conclude the season.
