De Ketelaere Holds Summer Discussions With PSG
Charles De Ketelaere has confirmed he held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a summer move, before the Ligue 1 champions signed Ferran Torres instead. The Atalanta forward addressed the Charles De Ketelaere PSG transfer interest in an interview with La Dernière Heure, revealing that Paris were among the clubs who made contact during the window.
De Ketelaere stayed at Atalanta for another campaign, but his comments make clear PSG’s interest was genuine before the club turned to Torres to strengthen the front line. For PSG supporters still weighing up the club’s summer business, his account gives the clearest picture yet of why that deal never got moving.
Attacker Details €50m Price Tag and Ferran Torres Choice
Speaking to La Dernière Heure, De Ketelaere explained that Atalanta’s valuation made a move difficult for most of his suitors. “There were clubs interested, but when you see the prices being paid in the current market, it isn’t always easy to leave. I know that Atalanta were asking for a lot, I think it was around €50m,” he said.
He went on to describe how few clubs outside the Premier League could meet that figure, before confirming PSG’s role directly. “You have to find a team that will pay it. In the Premier League, there are several teams that can do it, but it didn’t happen. I spoke with PSG but they ultimately chose Ferran Torres. I am happy at Atalanta. I know how important it is to be a starter following my adventure at AC Milan,” he added.
Those words settle the question of how far talks progressed. PSG had contact with De Ketelaere over the summer, weighed up Atalanta’s €50m valuation, and moved for Torres instead.
Luis Enrique’s Attack Following Summer Window Decisions
PSG’s choice of Torres over De Ketelaere fits into a busy summer for Luis Enrique, who has also been managing their ongoing contract negotiation efforts around the current forward group. Building a settled attacking unit has clearly mattered alongside any incoming transfer business.
De Ketelaere’s price tag, by his own account, sat at the higher end of what Atalanta wanted, and PSG evidently judged Torres the more practical fit for the squad. Nothing in his interview points to any lingering PSG interest beyond that summer conversation, and De Ketelaere was clear that he remains settled in Bergamo.
What Next for PSG’s Forward Options
With the Charles De Ketelaere PSG transfer talk now closed for this window, attention turns to how Luis Enrique’s attack performs with Torres already in place. PSG head into their opening Ligue 1 fixtures with their forward options for the summer settled.
De Ketelaere, for his part, said he values regular football after a difficult spell at AC Milan, and Atalanta’s project appears to suit him for now. There is no indication from his interview of any renewed contact between the two clubs, and PSG’s focus has shifted to the season ahead.
