PSG coach Luis Enrique has lauded the atmosphere created by home fans in their 2-0 Champions League win over Liverpool.

Desire Doue’s 11th-minute opener followed by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s second goal after the break fired PSG to a comfortable triumph at Parc des Princes.

From start to finish, the ultra groups cheered on with a magnificent ‘Hulk’ tifo that was unveiled just before kick-off.

Enrique expressed disappointment with his players not scoring more than two goals but he was moved by the fans’ support.

“I think we deserved this result,” Enrique said after the game. “It was a very difficult match, very tight, especially in the first half.

“In the second half we created a lot of chances. It’s a shame because I think we could have scored at least one more goal, but that’s football and we have to accept it.

“The atmosphere inside the stadium tonight was incredible. I think we played as well as our supporters sang and that’s not easy!

“I have witnessed this connection between the team and the fans since I arrived in Paris and it is stronger than ever right now.”

Enrique anticipates tough return at Anfield

PSG travel to Merseyside next Tuesday for the return fixture with the aiming of advancing into the semi-final.

With the two-goal advantage, Enrique is still anticipating a ‘tough’ encounter against Liverpool and he has reiterated his attacking style of play.

He added: “Now is the time to enjoy this win, do our recovery, recuperate and think about the return game in Liverpool.

“We will head to Liverpool with the aim to win, like always. It will be tough because Anfield is a very difficult stadium to play in. But with this team, we will look to play the best way we can, and that means to attack all game!”

When PSG and Liverpool met last season in the Champions League, the Parisians overturned a 1-0 deficit and defeated their Anfield hosts via a penalty shoot-out.
