# Barcola Liverpool Transfer: Agreement Reached as Paris Brace for a Double Exit

Paris Saint-Germain lost a final to ten-man Lens on Sunday without two of the wingers who have spent all summer on the front page. Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye were not in the squad, and by Tuesday lunchtime the reason had hardened into something close to a conclusion. The **Barcola Liverpool transfer** has moved from bid to breakthrough: Goal.com reports an improved bid of around €135m, the London Evening Standard reports that agreement has been reached in talks with PSG, and separate reporting has Liverpool agreeing a contract with Mbaye as well. Nothing is signed. But for the first time this window the direction of travel looks settled, and Les Parisiens are being asked to sell two of their own in the same fortnight.

## Background: a saga that started in July and never stopped

This is not a story that arrived this week. ReadPSG has tracked it through [the opening rounds of talks](https://readpsg.com/news/barcola-liverpool-transfer-talks/) in early August and [Arsenal’s attempt to hijack the deal](https://readpsg.com/news/barcola-transfer-arsenal-hijack-liverpool/). Along the way the numbers have only gone up. On 17 August we covered [Liverpool’s €135m bid](https://readpsg.com/news/liverpool-barcola-bid-135m-psg/); three days before that, reporting of a [€200m double package](https://readpsg.com/news/barcola-mbaye-psg-200m-liverpool/) covering both Barcola and Mbaye; and before either, [the first claims that personal terms were close](https://readpsg.com/news/barcola-exit-liverpool-personal-terms/).

The context matters. Paris have already spent heavily this summer: Maghnes Akliouche arrived from AS Monaco, Ferran Torres from Barcelona and Mika Godts from Ajax, with Lucas Digne returning from Aston Villa to reinforce the left — four confirmed additions in a single window, three of them in attacking areas. The Washington Post still has PSG down as [favourites for another Ligue 1 title, with spending power no rival in France can match](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMixgFBVV95cUxQaXRYNUFQMk9HeGxqYmktZ3FJUlByYVA5NjY2UDhxMVR6NjFER0NMRVRLUk15MDRlLTQwcWlzUnU1ek1TNDcwbzAyWkdpU0k4S24zOHRTY0J2cmRwVXNNTUtZRW5yc0dIM1B2bkdud3BUUWJMNXpWWVNHVm1PS2JoSkJ3M2Z2YXdSaFNwdlc3amRIVXo0WmhhLUZPVjhUbEs4X2pUcVY2dEVuR0xwMXNHclVTT1JkUEg1SmZMbDRQbEpNNVBQSkE?oc=5). A squad that has just won back-to-back Champions Leagues does not need to sell. It is choosing to listen, and that is a different thing entirely.

## Barcola Liverpool transfer: what is actually agreed

### The €135m bid and the “discount”

Goal.com reported on Tuesday morning that Liverpool had [submitted an improved bid of around €135m for Barcola after his omission at Lens](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMilwFBVV95cUxQYWpLLWp3RUxTdHFWU1ktMHlhXzNpR0UxUWVER1RRU2tJM25MR1FOd2FLZ2NELTdHd0hlLXFaSWljMEI3UTlyanh2cXYtZ2FTM0ltOUN1dFQ2Tkk1ZncxRE1BSFJqZG50SmY5MkJ6S0dmZzJzdGhvOG51WUNZU2hUSzR4RDdZQ2VyTTdtTHRzNFgxSUZhRkFj?oc=5). Hours later the London Evening Standard went further, reporting that a [“Barcola discount” is in play as agreement is reached in talks with PSG](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMinAFBVV95cUxOdk1NYW5tUFI5YUJsZzNBenh1dUJLN1RncGNuZWpibWhoWTZHN2phVjJ3djJvamRjRzNvYjRIUWVJSF95a256bGgtbkRRMUNBd3FNSVlSMzFxQ2FsSVhtY0k3Rm5obURmRzlBT01Sb1dFR1VWYWRGYV9PWktvMUNYV1JQaV9sVGpBNGNrcHNyWERBSmpUZWJYWnY5S20?oc=5). The Standard’s wording does not make clear which side is offering what, and no outlet in circulation has published a confirmed fee, a payment structure or an add-on breakdown. Treat the €135m as reported, not banked.

What is clearer is the momentum. This Is Anfield had already flagged that Liverpool were [expected to bid this week](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMikAFBVV95cUxQbUpqdmFBbk1ydk5mT051TlNURXVhTXMwM2dTZzZpOWpZMWIwQXNoeE5IV0dFMU1idkc5WG5RaWNoSkZOWXhPcUpvdVpEM0JVdTFxdXl3a3hZS0oxZWQzQlFMMm0tNkJpc0FVS2dIbVRPdkpfQzd4djVudWN4M2dhc2NsOFVaZjFhX19TclJhdTU?oc=5), and the Daily Mirror reported that the deal had [moved a step closer as the reason for a U-turn emerged](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMilwFBVV95cUxNUGRzRmVkcU5SRG1adHowSlpaRGlEX3o4cl9neWRlemc2OTR6YzdOZVZiN2RYWUFTanVVNGUtcDdvSWpFRTJqbHpiUTBxNnhzcWlYbXE0dkRGTGd3T1gwa3Vtc3NBWlVLSk9TTm5YS2JZOUgwUDRoZHZ5SU1SRjY0aFVmQllJNjk3ZHp5dmpmQm1yUUxJOFJr0gGcAUFVX3lxTE9jRlFZUDVpZjhDQ1Z4ZHp3bDY3SUMtemtzWkN4LVJ1R2o3Tk81Y3RVTVd3Q0VMbldpdTdVamlKOFI0WXNYY2U0ZlloRWUxVDhEX0h2RTRJRUdla3VSbWZtZWhOZkpPZDdPVFJVdHFXc2tpdVc3TW4tZldXSUpRRjFUMlpzSWplTGZCbjJWaDdDVXFqcGxYWE5LUEZzeQ?oc=5). Football365, citing a well-connected Liverpool reporter, went as far as a [“done deal” claim](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMihwFBVV95cUxPLTJKR3Fka3AzUnRRcTkyODIxUTktbEphWVNNZmpsOVJkNnFSaGNxNHcyVnFSZEo1MFBtLTVyTXZ0dGNTQnJNU2JnLVc2eWlGemVzOUFpaTRwaXg0ekszcGpZY19UdWItb19tRUkyYlM5ZDR2aGNrNjc1R1NyUlVEdkw0MjdWb3c?oc=5) — while noting in the same breath that Barcola has been linked with a preference for Arsenal. Both of those things are being reported at once. Only one of them can survive the week.

### The Mbaye piece, and why it changes the shape of the window

Running alongside it is the second exit. This Is Anfield reported that Liverpool had [agreed a five-year contract with Ibrahim Mbaye](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMikwFBVV95cUxNWTRfTnhaTGpKRThmSnhwbGNxN1p0OWptZjhfaHE0M3hRM3Nib1BkY2l3a0plR2Jjc01sTGU4S2VSazRYSDhBNnBJSk56Z1E3OGFwSDRCMmtrVW5fTjJIX0g0bGNLbndRcXUzcFB4RkYwdGlIeHJCekNwbmh6ZWluZ0hLY1JleE5jUEJYRkQ4QTgzUFE?oc=5), and Football365 framed the pair together as a [£155m double deal](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiqgFBVV95cUxPNmpNYTRWeDUxWmYtRVJBcVhpbEdXTlJIellZLUlHTkY2Mzl3aC1JSk5IM1hUVE9XZEZnbWFWOGltc25DbFc3UjJRQlpTRFpRYzdEYXR2SDFaMWREWDFDeGRTVTFuTk03cDhWaklNYXNRMVNyanU1aWJRRTdRRmxnQm5OMmZuRS1aWTZMOVUxZV9oOG5VSjE3X0xkN1BEU3RaTDcta1liWWd4QQ?oc=5) now advancing. Goal.com described a [breakthrough on terms with a PSG winger while the Barcola chase continued](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMivgFBVV95cUxNQmVpamtDQ1lfZG5CdTBhMzd4SUlXQUxFRlVDaFhVYWJ6UGFpUVFKa1RvR0xnTWFxWEpNaVNfTmtJaUlVcWhQMkxoS0tZNlFmaTc2N0g5YjNLQngwSUFYcEdNcnY4a1F5VVpFNUxqN0tqajZjbGlWWFlXN2xDYTFfdWxkQW1WTUhQcGJhUlZsSFh2aUtFaTh1MVdENG5sVElXUTBOaDFJMjhMMng2NzVhWDJwbm5sN0R3eVBZUk5B?oc=5) — two threads pulled at the same time, by the same buyer.

Mbaye is not a squad-filler. He is on the official 2026-27 first-team list at 49, one of the academy products Paris have spent years protecting, and the interest is not confined to Merseyside: we covered [the Manchester United angle](https://readpsg.com/news/ibrahim-mbaye-transfer-man-utd-psg-opening/) only yesterday. For a club that markets its Titis as hard as its galacticos, letting a homegrown forward and a senior winger valued in nine figures leave in the same window is a statement about priorities, not just about accounting.

### What Luis Enrique has already signalled

The most revealing evidence this week did not come from a transfer reporter. It came from a team sheet. Both players were [left out of the PSG squad for the Trophée des Champions](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMinAFBVV95cUxPMWJYUDFRTmFZLWtIcnE1T1dRSDlzXzJNQzFEV3hwUGFBeFo2c0NWYS1QWi0yQ3VBR01OcllSWW9VLTJLdW9TbzZTYklPb1I3LUNXNERneUl0MFppOTJkaWtKWVF5VDBzZDc2N0NweFFOVzBWOGl4V0tVUTNHckhRYnZOQ2xSNXBBRElsZm5UeS1STTBjc0tNamFaNmI?oc=5), and Yahoo Sports reported that Luis Enrique gave a [blunt response when asked about the omissions](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiigFBVV95cUxQWmN4dTd2ZkNqakRLRlFQOUU5OTNIWkxOSFFLUzJ4QmZjTEtmTDZYYUFQWVpISFA1QmVJQUlPUmdNMEc0bDRxaG9nZkNxZmRGZ1IweUdpaGJjdV9HMmRZXzBacWF2bUl1RWg5bTZ6dE1LX2JPdktCSXE0UGxfNTdTcGJoVGN5Y2c4LXc?oc=5). Paris then [lost the final 1-0 to a ten-man Lens side](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMiY0FVX3lxTE9iSjdpdlRLdFlmVlUzVkNJWmFoQXVvVjI4a0tFQ1BUYWIzc3liX1lpd3hubXFxU1NVWFN4aFFxaTFxeGJLNXBuaXhpMWJNb2VXUjNQWF9Eci1qRVVwOVNsOGZ3TQ?oc=5).

Managers do not leave players out of a final to shield them from speculation unless the speculation is real. Luis Enrique has consistently picked the squad he intends to work with, and on Sunday that squad did not include either winger. It is the strongest indicator in this entire saga, and it did not require a single anonymous source.

## The case against: why this could still stall

Three things stand between the reporting and a signature. The first is Arsenal. Goal.com carried ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann arguing that [Arsenal hold the edge in the race, and that it is “a question only he can answer”](https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMivAFBVV95cUxOVkE3Tk1rbmJ5MXpRMUVWLUZacjdiSWZCUGZETHNTVUREckw0N21fTGJPc19rRDlWVG9ZSjFaZDV4OWg3d2hPckZXVVZZcnRTSTYxdUZOSkVnZi10bEhRMTJTN3ZkYnQ5aTZnRFRKcmpfY2hXeEhVa0pfRk5yeGJrVVpoczF3Yi1MaVZkYVBlRHk3RFdXekpTNlVJaENTQXZRbWQ2Slh1bldIMmJwRDF6M1JnTUdJZTRnT3FHSw?oc=5). A player linked with a preference for one club does not usually sign for another simply because the bid landed first.

The second is price. The gap between what has been offered and what Paris will accept has been the whole story since July — we set out both sides in [whether PSG should sell Barcola at all](https://readpsg.com/news/should-psg-sell-bradley-barcola/). A club with Qatar Sports Investments behind it and no financial need to sell has the luxury of saying no late in a window.

The third is replacement. Barcola wears 29 in a forward line that also holds Ousmane Dembélé, the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué. Sell him and Mbaye together and the depth behind that trio thins out fast — Godts and Akliouche are new arrivals still to play a competitive minute in a Paris shirt as far as anything published this summer shows. Sunday’s defeat to Lens, with neither man available, was a small preview of what a short squad looks like in August.

## What happens next

The window is still open and the sequence from here is fairly predictable. If the Standard’s report of agreement in talks holds, the next visible step is a medical, then an announcement — and on the current reporting Mbaye’s could land first, given a contract is already described as agreed. If Barcola’s own preference genuinely lies elsewhere, expect several days of public silence while his camp waits for a rival to move.

For Paris, the tell will be the Ligue 1 opener. If Barcola is in the squad, the deal has slowed. If he is left out for a second consecutive match, it has not. Watch, too, for whether the club moves for another wide forward — a fifth attacking arrival in one summer would confirm that both exits are priced in. Our running file on [every PSG in and out this window](https://readpsg.com/news/psg-transfers-2026-ins-outs-whats-next/) is where those will land.

## The verdict from the Parc

The **Barcola Liverpool transfer** is the closest it has been all summer, on the reporting of at least five separate outlets, and the Mbaye deal may get there sooner. But agreement in talks is not a transfer, a reported fee is not a confirmed one, and Barcola has not said a word in public about where he wants to play. Until PSG publish a departure, both men are Paris Saint-Germain players — and Luis Enrique still has a title to defend with whoever is left.
